Creating Comfort, Dopamine Decor
When you look around your space, what makes you smile?
I have always been a nester and crave comfort in my physical space. Any office I worked in was quickly redone to offer me low lighting and other things that help me focus. I did this many years before I knew about my neurodivergence. Now, I am on another level of embracing comfort and making adaptions to maximize rewards from the energy I have available. Have you thought about your environment?
Your home and office environment have a direct impact on your ability to handle stress and regulate emotions. Your partner and family are also part of your immediate environment.
Dopamine Decor: Home decor, nicknacks, or other things that bring joy to a space. This might relate to a special interest or other 'nontypical' choices. Making your home your signature style (for renters or homeowners).

Rest is NOT a luxury; it is a requirement of being human. If you don't know where to find the time to slow down, you could be forced into a shutdown. In some cases, this might look like burnout. Burnout can happen to anyone, although it is particularly intense for neurodivergent individuals.
Burnout is physical, emotional, or mental exhaustion accompanied by decreased motivation, lowered performance, and negative attitudes.
Autistic burnout is a syndrome conceptualized as resulting from chronic life stress and a mismatch of expectations and abilities without adequate supports. It is characterized by pervasive, long-term (typically 3+ months) exhaustion, loss of function, and reduced tolerance to stimulus.

Some of my favorite comforts! Especially the espresso machine, heating pad, and ice pack.
